North Canton Police Chief Stephan Wilder says: “Seek treatment” for Heroin

The heroin-related death toll is rising here in Ohio, and it’s not too late to do something about it. Here’s an excerpt from Cleveland’s Fox 8’s recent story detailing three heroin-related deaths in a 24-hour period, followed by a link to the full story. If you’re using heroin, or if you suspect someone you love has a heroin problem, please seek treatment before it results in addiction, arrest, or worse.

Three deaths within a 24-hour period in Stark County leave police with new concerns about heroin, which is already a serious problem throughout Northeast Ohio.

Police Chief Stephan Wilder said a 23-year-old North Canton man died Wednesday of what appears to be a heroin overdose.

Two Canton men, ages 53 and 32, died on Thursday.

Their deaths closely follow five deaths in nearby Akron from what police have described as a “bad batch” of heroin.

“The heroin could be so pure that it’s going to affect the user. I think in some instances the heroin could be cut with a cutting agent to increase its toxicity, and the other thing is, in my experience, over the years I have seen people use a combination of drugs,” said Wilder.

“We just felt that again we needed to get a message, an alert out to the public, whether it’s being used intentionally or accidentally, we just want to make people aware, to seek treatment rather than using heroin if they have a drug issue or a problem, you know, seek treatment before you resort to buying something off the street,” he added.
