Kid Cudi seeks treatment for depression

As often as we see articles about public figures, like Kid Cudi, seeking treatment for depression or other mental illnesses, we try to share them here in our ongoing effort to remove stigmas associated with mental illness and to reinforce the message that there isn’t a set of material circumstances that can effectively ward off dealing with internal issues. Here’s an excerpt from The A.V. Club’s coverage of Kid Cudi checking in for treatment. If you’re in the greater Cleveland area and feel like you might have depression, we hope you’ll reach out.

ABC News reports that rapper, actor, and former Comedy Bang! Bang! bandleader Kid Cudi has checked into rehab for anxiety and depression. The Cleveland native, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, made the announcement Tuesday night on his Facebook page.

In his missive, Kid Cudi indicates that he’s checked himself into rehab for “depression and suicidal urges,” writing “my anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it. I can’t make new friends because of it. I don’t trust anyone because of it and I’m tired of being held back in my life. I deserve to have peace. I deserve to be happy and smiling. Why not me?”
